Gibbs-Herndon-Rogers House
Gibbs-Herndon-Rogers House c. 1838 An original three-room log structure, the house is one of Social Circle's first. There have been several additions to the house which was enlarged for a wedding in the late 1830's. In 1840, it was deeded by the Gibbs family to the Burtons. Mr. Issac Anderson Stanton, Sr., moved his family into the house, constructed the second story, and installed the columns on the porch. Mr. Stanton also added the stained-glass windows going up the stairs some time around 1895. It is said that Sherman's soldiers camped under the front oaks in their "March to the Sea" down West Hightower Trail.
