In 1870, Reverend A.M. Atkinson was the principal of the Social Circle
Male and Female High School, which was opened on March 26, 1870. The
Reverend built his house at 133 E. Hightower Trail c. 1872. The Gresham
family purchased the house sometime in the late 1800s and lived there until
c. 1927. The house became known as the Catherine Gresham Townhouse and
was considered to be a New England style “Snow House.” In
1927, the house was sold to Mr. and Mrs. Thurmond Baccus, the parents of Ms.
Sarah Baccus Stephens, who sold the property c. 1988. The house was
subsequently rented to several families until it was purchased by Celeste
Dupree in 1999. Some partial restoration was done to the home prior
to its sale to the present owners, the Daltons, who completed the restoration
and moved in June, 2002.
