Duval-Donaldson Home

Duvall-Donaldson Home
c. 1873

Address - 152 Dogwood Ave
Current Owners - Rich and Kimberly Donaldson

A fine example of the Second Empire style of architecture which was popular in the United States from the 1850’s to the 1880’s, this style was most often used in the construction of public or governmental buildings.  It is extremely rare in the south with only a handful of Second Empire homes in Georgia.

The house was built in 1873 by the Phillips family and was subsequently sold to the George Stanton family in 1897. The Stantons remodeled the home extensively at that time by adding a Colonial Revival style porch with Doric columns, “new” Victorian fireplace mantles, an inside bathroom and electricity.  The home remained in the Stanton family and their heirs, the Duvalls, until the death of Mrs. Rosebud Duvall in 1985.  The house was sold at her death and subsequently changed hands several times, usually remaining vacant, until it was purchased in 1994 by Richard and Kimberly Donaldson who extensively restored the home to it’s present beauty
